Fashion Hits & Misses- 2013 Emmys

Hi Lovies!

I tried to get this post done yesterday, and then I got royally distracted by g-chat work. Anyways, it's my favorite time of the year.. award season. Few things make me quite as happy as talking celebrity fashion so I'm in heaven.

I watched the red carpet interview so I could take notes, but I missed the show and it sounds like I didn't miss much. I'm thrilled that Breaking Bad won, but I'm pissed that Bryan, Aaron, or Dean didn't win for the final season. Let's not even talk about the emotional mess I'm going to be after next Sunday. I digress.

Let's get to the dresses..

HITS

Julie Bowen in Zac Posen
At first glance I thought this dress was too much, but then I kept looking at it and it completely grew on me. It really is perfect for her thin frame because she can pull off all the voluminous detail. I mean that skirt? It's almost like the best kind of tutu. It makes me want to twirl around. The pale color is perfect because there is already enough detail that something bright would have been too much. Oh and I'd be willing to guess that clutch is Marchesa. Gimme right now.

Tina Fey in Narcisco Rodriguez
Oh girlfriend is working those curves and she nailed it. The color is beautiful and so on trend and this dress fits her like a glove! The sweetheart halter is a style that's very flattering on a lot of women because it hides that weird armpit skin that happens to so many unfortunate souls. It was perfect styled too with the jewels and her hair down! This is a big win for Tina.

Christina Hendricks in Christian Siriano
I love EVERYTHING about this. Christina has a hard time finding couture gowns that fit her curves and this dress is perfect. It gives her a perfect hour glass shape and I love flapper-esque styling of the hair and clutch. I'm a little weary of the bangles but I'll let that slide. This is the best red carpet look she has ever had. Absolutely stunning!

Kaley Cuoco in Vera Wang
Kaley is another star that has had some real misses on the red carpet. This look is just flawless on her. The hair and makeup are perfect and this dress gives her an amazing shape. It's sexy with the sheer panel, but it's also very classy and in a gorgeous color! Did anyone see her being all lovey with her new boyfriend on the red carpet? I think love has definitely helped her confidence on the carpet!

Michelle Dockery in Prada
The dresses I picked before this one were all very simple, but I think this was a great shot at doing something different and succeeding. I love the two tone, the open back, the big skirt and that big bow. It's perfect with her chin length hair and I think it's just an overall win. She looks gorgeous!

Leslie Mann in J. Mendel
I know some people are not going to agree with me on this one, but this was my one and only pattern win of the night. It's HARD to do a pattern on the red carpet and this dress fits her not only fits her phenomenally, but it really does the sheer bottom thing perfectly. Her hair is really blah and I wish she'd done it up to show off the awesome fit of the top.

MISSES

Carrie Underwood in Romona Keveza
Oh Carrie. Step away from the high school prom queen look I beg you. Between the dress, the hair, and the jewels it just screams tacky and that makes me sad! She has such an amazing body that I wish she had gone form fitting and sparkly. Let's be honest, that's when she looks banging!

Heidi Klum in Versace
This is such a disappointment because if you take away that thing attacking her neck, the dress is kind of gorgeous. This might be a cool dress for a movie premiere or something, but it's too futuristic and weird for the Emmys. Honestly, it reminds me of X-Men or Avatar and that's not a good thing. I also feel like she didn't put any effort her hair or makeup, they look thrown together.

Amy Poehler in Basler
The last thing I want to do is hate on the hilarious Amy, but this dress is not doing her a single favor. The sheer top with cap sleeves makes her look very boxy, and the fuzzy peplum is just making her look wide. Had the silhouette been a strapless skin-tight gown she would have looked a million times better. Oh, and the hair.. blah.

Lena Dunham in Prada
I feel like it's a waste of time to even hate on Lena Dunham. I mean she literally gives zero f**ks and I dig that about her. There is just nothing good about this ensemble. The cut is bad, the fabric is weird, her hair, and her makeup. None of it works and she probably knows it but she's just doing her. I do think there are ways to be yourself and still be flattering but whatever.

Connie Britton in Naeem Khan
This dress is just way too Grecian goddess gone wrong. I don't think velvet has a place anywhere, let alone a red carpet but overall it's just bad. I don't like the gold pattern and how it matches her hair. She is such a gorgeous lady and this doesn't do her any justice.

Julianne Hough in Jenny Packham
I'll just say it because I know you're thinking it.. this dress belongs on Dancing with the Stars, not the red carpet. The weird loose arm things also don't do her any favors. The only thing I like is the color, but this is just working for me at all otherwise. She's a gorgeous girl so I get sad that she makes such terrible fashion choices. PS. Do you think she avoids talking to E! on the red carpet? That's gotta be awkward.

MARCHESA

Kerry Washington
Love, love, love. She looks like a pretty ballerina princess and I want to live in this dress. Except maybe not that color because I would look pale and weird. Kerry Washington ALWAYS kills it on the red carpet and when she wears Marchesa I just die.

Malin Ackerman
Beautiful dress, beautiful color.. She looks gorgeous and I can't say that there's anything I don't like.

Alyson Hannigan
This one makes me kinda sad. The color is amazing and the dress itself is pretty, but it's not doing her favors because it's so fitted and she just had a baby. I don't want to hate on her, but she shouldn't have worn something so fitted to the stomach!

And we're done.. finally. Woof these posts take me so long to make up my mind.

Let's hear it.. agree or disagree with my picks? Who were your hits & misses from the Emmy awards?

Michelle Dockery! OMG. So much love for that look.

I am also the only person in the world that loved Connie's velvet comfy looking dress.

Heidi Klum and that collar...it just looked STUPID. Why was she even there? SHE DOESN'T EVEN GO HERE!

I feel like the Heidi Klum dress should be on Carrie, yes???

I love Kaley Cuoco and Malin!

I think if Julianne's gown wouldn't have been sheer on the bottom and the weird sleeves were gone she would have nailed it! I just really don't dig the unitard type thing going on under there.

I loved Tina's look and I said the exact same thing about Carrie. It looked straight out of a 2003 prom book. Poor thing. Even if she'd had a rockin statement necklace or something...

I think that that's the best Tina has looked. Julie's dress was so pretty and romantic. I love the color of Kaley's dress. It was cool AND pretty.

Carrie needed to go back to prom, I agree. I didn't care for any of the "misses" dresses.

And Marchesa -- I love!

I'm not a fan of Kaley's but otherwise I agree with your thoughts!

um, Lean Dunham definitely looks like she is wearing a comforter. Like a king size one. But you're right, she couldn't care less, and that's kind of cool. Also, Julianne Hough has a leotard on under her dress. What is that about? And I LOVE Kaley's dress. And you're right that Carrie looks like she is at prom...which is super sad, because she is ridiculously gorgeous, and can pull off like, almost any look ever...except that one.

I love it when you do these posts. :)

Julianne Hough :O

What are you wearing!

I was SCARED to look.. because I picked my "fashion" nails today based on a dress from the Emmys, and I was SO nervous that it would be on your "Misses" list!

Don't worry - it isn'. Phew! Crisis averted ;)

is it bad that i literally saw none of this?! i mean i haven't even seen a celeb website in days (i know, woe is me ;)) but seriously maroon is the it color.

Rose Byrne's dress was absolutely beautiful.

Other than her, Tina Fey's was definitely my favorite.

I think Tina Fey and Malin Ackerman were definitely the best dressed out of everyone! They both looked AMAZING! But Julianne Hough...what in the world?! You don't wear that to the Emmys! The unitard was just...weird!

I agree with EVERYTHING.
Can we talk about Julianne for a second.
Leotard with a little bit of chiffon is NOT couture. That is dance moms with a kick.

I was not impressed.

Kaley Cuoco looked FANTASTIC. She is not always my favorite, but WOW

I don't know why Carrie Underwood would cover up her amazing body with that plain-jane, prom dress.

I feel like the person in the world who liked Connie Britton's dress, but it was probably my favorite look of the whole night.

I didn't watch the Emmys but I agree with most of these. Actually I think I agree with all of them. WHAT WAS HEIDI KLUM THINKING??? It makes her look like Little Foot from Land Before Time...you know, the dinosaurs with the long necks??? And Carrie Underwood?? WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT. When I worked in bridal that dress was a bridesmaid dress. UGH COME ON. I love that you know so much about fashion...I'm like "Oh that's a cool black dress, look at the dress with the stripes!!" etc.

I loved Kaley's dress, It was beautiful!

I agree wholeheartedly on every breakdown! Although, I think the Nashville chick went with the Velvet because she plays a country star. Even if it isn't necessarily appropriate for the Emmy's, I would LOVE that dress with a sweetheart neckline. Don't judge me, I'm not a fashionista like you!
