Fashion Hits & Misses- 2013 Oscars

Hi Bunnies!

Today is the ultimate fashion recap, and also the last one of the awards show season! Insert sad face here. The Oscars or the Academy Awards (Why do they have two names again? That is so confusing!) are when all of the stars bring out the big guns. This is THE awards show of the season and nobody wants to be on the worst dressed list. This is also the awards show where all of the big designers beg the stars to wear their gowns. Also why I will never understand when a starlet wears a bad dress. I mean you had so many options! Anyways, I digress.. let's get to the pictures!

HITS

Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture
Hands down just perfect, everything about it. The top was fitted so perfectly to her tiny body that the parachute like bottom didn't seem overwhelming. The perfect balance. Can I have this as my wedding dress please? I loved her hair up and I was obsessed with the jewels, especially the delicate necklace that she wore to the back. I've said it once, and I'll say it again.. I want to be her. Homegirl is 22 and has two nominations and one win in the bag. She is going to have an amazing career. Plus she's awesome!

Naomi Watts in Armani Prive
This is one of those dresses that really should not work, yet it's perfection. All of that sparkle and all of that detail could easily have been too much and she looks like a stunning sparkly princess. There is not one single thing I would change about this, even the styling is perfect. The dress wows and she keeps her hair, makeup, and jewels simple. This is probably my favorite look from the entire season. You go Naomi Coco!

Charlize Theron in Dior Haute Couture
If you're going to go on an awards show hiatus, THIS IS HOW YOU MAKE A COMEBACK! She pulled off a trend that nobody has done well on the red carpet so far, and that's a peplum.. it gave the perfect pop to this white column dress. She also pulls the pixie cut off about 100 times better than Anne Hathaway ever could. I do wish she would have added a little color either with the jewels or a handbag. Otherwise, job well done girl!

Jennifer Garner in Gucci
Had you asked me if I would like to see a tail on the red carpet this year, I would have said hail to the no, obvi. But on Jen Garner, a tail works wonders. I love the color, and the fit is so perfect that the party in the back adds the perfect touch. Obsessed with the necklace too! I will say that the color coordinating peep toes hanging out the bottom make me cringe, but I'm sure it's hard to walk in a dress like that so I'll zip it.

Stacy Kiebler in Naeem Kahn
All hail George Clooney's longest standing cocktail waitress girlfriend! I kid of course, but I think we are all surprised she's stuck around this long. Back to the dress.. I am obsessed. I love everything about this from the color, to the pattern, to the belt. I also love that she stuck to the flapper influence with her hair, yet somehow didn't look too costumey. My lover Brad Goreski knocked this look out of the park!

Amy Adams in Oscar de la Renta
Another glamorous train and another stunning look. I love this look and she looks like she's floating on a pretty grey cloud. Have we ever seen Amy Adams look bad? She is an example of how having a great stylist is such a blessing for celebrities! Love her slightly messy updo as well.. it's the perfect compliment to this dress!

Sandra Bullock in Elie Saab
Oh hey Sandy girl! Missed you. Her and Reese Witherspoon are my homegirls. Love them to death. I adore this Elie Saab dress and honestly he does no wrong in my eyes but I'm obsessed with this look. At first I didn't love the hair, but it grew on me and it's so straight and chic that it really balances out the femininity of the gown. I really hate that handbag (Why is there a chain but you're not using it?)but we'll just let that slide. Sandy is the queen, duh!

I just realized that every look I picked was in the white/grey/black color family with the exception of Jennifer Garner. I guess that goes to show that you don't always need alot of color to make a big statement on the red carpet!

MISSES

Anne Hathaway in Prada
Nothing about this look works, NOTHING. That dress is 90's prom in the front and just all around weird in the back. The color does nothing for her, and we all know that the seams up top accentuate what you don't want accentuated on the red carpet. Okay I'll say it, we are all staring at her nips. Also, she rubs me the wrong way and does not seem genuine in the least. PS. This is why you don't reject the custom made dress and go with something else three house before the show. Dumb.

Jennifer Aniston in Valentino
There is nothing truly bad about this look, but I'm bored of Jennifer Aniston's thing. Change it up girl! She is always wearing a poofy ball gown and she's always wearing her hair down. It works for her but we also want to see something more, something different! Also, I wonder if she only agreed to present because Brad and Ang weren't making an appearance? She does look very happy though and that's great!

Zoe Saldana in Alexis Mabille
This a classic issue of too many trends and not enough dresses. Separately all of the elements are good, but together it's sort of a mess. If the top was a simple sweetheart neckline.. I would have loved the pop of ombre train at the bottom. Almost as if I want to cut the dress in half? She also looks sort of down and tired. Probably all of that back and forth with BCoop. Love is exhausting sister!

Nicole Kidman in L'Wren Scott
Oh honey no. There is just too much going on here! Sparkly black sequins have a way of creeping up on you and looking like trash bags and oil spills and they are definitely doing that here. Throw in the gold sequins and this totally reminds me of one of my grandma's jackets from Chicos. Her pale complexion looks so much better in color. She may have been going for something out of the box, but it just didn't work.

Halle Berry in Versace
Everything I loved about Stacy Keibler's dress, I hate on Halle Berry's. This is too futuristic robot for me and even though we all know she has a banging body, the dress would make you think she has a little pooch. That's never a good thing. If I picture it sleeveless with a black skirt I actually kind of love it but alas I am not the designer and I give this look two thumbs down. Better luck next season Halle!

Salma Hayek in Alexander McQueen
Velvet, gold applique, and a tiara on a petite little lady? A recipe for disaster. Too me this is Kate Hudson's flawless look from the Golden Globes gone wrong. Her figure looks amazing, but this reminds me of something very old and does not feel modern at all. Let's just admit it, she should always being showing off her curves and her tatas.. it works for her!

Brandi Glanville in her own design
This one is pretty self explanatory, but I have one question.. how in the world did Brandi of all people manage to get invited to the Oscars and walk the red carpet? I mean seriously, who did she sleep with?

MARCHESA
Somehow, Marchesa managed to get nearly completely skipped this awards season and I don't know why. I hope they come back with a vengeance because I miss their pretty gowns on the big stars!

Olivia Munn
Right off the runway and my heart skips a beat. I love everything about this dress because it's classic Marchesa and it's gorgeous!

Georgina Chapman
I know everyone said that Jenna Dewan had the perfect baby bump look, and I think she looked amazing.. but Georgina Chapman takes the cake for me. She is always flawless.

Fan Bingbing
I have no clue who this girl is but she sort of ruined a perfectly amazing Marchesa gown. The styling is bad and her shoes are too tall. This makes me a little sad to be honest.

As far as the show, I thought it had it's funny moments but it was way too long! I did however manage to live tweet the whole show and not land myself in Twitter jail. Some of my favorite moments..

Sandra Bullock had a hard time opening the envelope..

Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper are so totally in love we should just ignore the 16 year age gap.. that's no big.

Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck are the ultimate Hollywood couple. So adorably in love I can't handle it!

Did you watch the Oscars? Who were your Hits & Misses?

I didn't watch the Oscars, but from what I've seen, I agree with EVERYTHING you said. :) You nailed it again my friend. :)

JLAW. She wins life and I wanna be her bestie. And she's from KY.

AND her and BCoops are in love. So that makes me hate her a little.

said...

Couldn't agree more! So happy that JLaw redeemed herself except for the whole falling up the stairs things but she played it off like a champ. I wish her and B coop would just reproduce already. Sandy B has always been one of my faves and I loved that dress too! I loved the color of Jennifer Garner's but wasn't feeling the tail too much.

XOXO Kalyn

Stacy forever. Her name is beautiful. But I thought Amy Adams dress was the color of dirty dishwater sorrrry.

For some reason I can't ever get into awards shows so I never watch them. I just read tweets & blog posts & news articles to get all the info. lol :)

first i could cry looking at ben and jennifer together. i love them so much.

second- why are there 2 names. excellent point.

and third you are a genius and I agree with everything

I agree with most of your dress thoughts...I mean Anne---REALLY?! Also I felt Halle Berry looked like sparkly Beetlejuice. I'm so over Jennifer Aniston's down simple hair...I think I would have liked her look better with an updo and pretty earrings. I love, love, love Jennifer Garner & Ben Affleck and I'm totally on board with BCoop & JLaw. I also loved Jessica Chastain and Amanda Seyfried's looks

Perfect post and fashion recap!
Jennifer and Brad.. I would support it definately!!!!!!

I'm alone on the sea of dresses. I love Salma Hayek's dress. Maybe not in velvet, but I think it's great.

said...

i pretty much agreed with you!

I totally agree! You nailed it! I love love loved Jennifer Garners - shes my fav.
:)

I loved Jennifer Lawrence's Dior gown! Simply beautiful! And I'm so glad you put Halle Berry on the Misses list... I only took one look at that gown and knew it was not a hit. And I was wondering the same thing about Brandi... how she get invited?

said...

I'm with you on everything here! I used to love Anne Hathaway and hate Jennifer Lawrence, but they totally switched places this awards season.

said...

If I can't be Jen Lawrence, I'd appreciate at least being her BFF. She is great!
And I agree on Naomi Watts--it worked because she wore it and it was stunning!

said...

Agree with you on everything!! The Sandy gif is hilarious, I missed that part!

said...

Omg, Ben's acceptance speech and shout out to Jennifer Garner had me in tears! They are such an awesome couple!

said...

I'm the minority because I actually like Brandi's look. I know, shame on me. I love love loved Jennifer Garner and I agree, they were the ultimate hollywood couple at the Oscars. Great picks!

I am so sad for Annie. I LOVE her which I know most people don't tend to care for her. Honestly, I think she could rock the hair if she would stop wearing such awful dresses. I'm disappointed because she was always on the Hit list for me.

said...

you had me at "oil spill" - as usual, everything is spot on. Although I am obsessed with Jen/Rachel, I agree with you and think she needs to change it up a bit.

Great post today! Thanks for the red carpet recap/6 hours of studying these dresses. See you next season!

But did you see Heidi Klum?!? Her and Brandi G need to talk, desperately.

Besides JLaw, nothing blew me away and nothing enraged me, except Anne of course.

Also, Stacy Keibler was in the WWE before Clooney which is like a cocktail waitress on crack. It makes me love/hate her even more.

said...

best recap I've read!! And seriously the fit on that Brandi Glanville girls dress is just the worst I've ever seen...

said...

I want to be best friends with J-Law. She's just so cool and normal, and I love that she laughed at herself after she fell down.

As for Anne and her boobs, I hear that she rejected the original dress at the last second because it didn't fit. There have been pregnancy rumors going around, so that could be why.

said...

LOL I agree with you about Brandi, like seriously who did she sleep with? I want to know!!

Ohhh JLaw and BCoop make my heart swoon. I love them both! And she seriously was the most stunning one there!

I only watched about half the Oscars, but I agree with most of what you said. I really enjoyed their tributes to the musicals and everything, but I agree, it was a bit long. I thought they did some of the less known categories (sound editing, for example) during commercial break, but it seems like this year they did it all for everyone to see. Maybe I've got it wrong though. Either way, it was a pretty good show - except for the fact that the same 5 movies were nominated for every category. Whose idea was that?

said...

Pretty sure I'm in love with J. Law. I want to call her up and invite her over for margaritas.

said...

Omg if Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper were a thing I would just cry. Perfection at its finest.
Oh and I cried watching Ben's acceptance speech. So sweet!

said...

Ben and Jen are so amazing to me. I just love them. And there are NO WORDS for Nicole Kidman and Halle Berry's respective ensembles. Yeesh.

said...

I didn't watch because I really only care about the fashion lol and that Brandi chick, who is she anyway? She looks like she needed to pull her dress up, or it slid down....Either way, noooooo

said...

LOVED Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Adams' dresses! So pretty!

said...

I love, love, loved your tweets all night long! This is perfection friend! I was so not a fan of Jen An's dress. It wasn't black but yiketys! hehehe Happy Wednesday eve!!!! P.s- Can I come visit with all this snow?! I'll reward you with a beach trip to visit me!!!!

said...

You are spot on with your hits and misses! I absolutely agree! But my biggest hit of the night was Ben's speech.

said...

i love sandra, too! when i had long hair people used to tell me that i looked like her...best compliment EVER!

i liked salma hayek's dress..but mainly cause it looked kinda vintage-y but hey everything else we basically agree with..like wtf halle, she's gorgeous but yet always picks the oddest outfits.
i liked the awards this year but they could definitely cut down on a lot of the BS..too long!!

said...

Loved Jennifer Garner, Jennifer Lawrence and even Jennifer Aniston's dresses. Jennifer-obsessed much here?! Hahaha! The misses I pretty much don't wanna get into...it'll get ugly. :)

And swoon...Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner are my fave couple ever!

I don't know who that Brandi girl is, but holy craptastic-boobies. I thought the SAME thing about Halle Barry's dress. So many people were all about it, but just NO.
